The South is where the future is being decided.
Across our thirteen-state region, women, girls, and gender-expansive people, especially women of color, are leading the work of building healthier, more prosperous, and more powerful communities. They have long done so with far too little investment. The Women's Foundation of the South exists to change that.
As a regional public foundation, we move capital to grantee partner organizations that are rooted in the communities they serve. We also invest in the leaders and the ecosystem that sustain this work.
Why institutions invest with us
Regional reach with local trust. Our grantee partners know their communities, and we know how to resource them. Your investment reaches the organizations and leaders closest to the solutions.
Collective investment. Philanthropy in the South has always been infrastructure. When institutions invest together, the impact extends beyond any single grant to the networks, leadership, and policy change that endure.
Research that informs the field. Our Shift the South research and legislative reviews help the field understand what Southern women and girls need and what is possible when investment follows their lead.
A foundation built to last. In 2026 we celebrate our fifth anniversary, and we are growing. By 2030 we will expand grantmaking toward all thirteen states and deepening our investment strategies, with the long-term goal of becoming enduring infrastructure for the region.
Where your investment can go
- General operating support. Flexible, multi-year support that lets us respond to community priorities and strengthen our grantmaking across the region.
- The Amandla Fund. Designed over eight months with Southern movement leaders, Amandla moves flexible, multi-year general operating support to the women, girls, and gender-expansive people defending democracy and protecting civic engagement across the South. Our five-year goal is $15M+, and community leaders hold real decision-making authority in the fund's grantmaking.
- Research and field leadership. Support for Shift the South and our work to amplify Southern narratives and policy leadership.
- Corporate partnership and sponsorship. Opportunities to stand alongside our anniversary-year work and our convenings.
